“MidEast Web for Coexistence” is ontstaan uit de vredes- en dialooggroepen tijdens het Oslo Vredesproces in de negentiger jaren. De website werd gelanceerd in 1999 aan het begin van een hoopvol nieuw millennium; een hoop die al snel in duigen zou vallen na het mislukken van de vredesonderhandelingen en het uitbreken van de Tweede Intifada.
De website werd door webmaster Ami Isseroff en anderen gevuld met stapels achtergrondmateriaal over het conflict, zijn geschiedenis en perspectieven voor een oplossing: landkaarten, VN documenten, tijdlijnen, scherpe analyses en kritieken door Ami zelf op zijn web log, initiatieven voor dialoog en vredesopbouw.
Bijna vier jaar na het overlijden van Ami Isseroff, willen we opnieuw aandacht vragen voor dit initiatief. Er zijn weinig websites te vinden met zoveel en gedegen en diepgaande achtergrondinformatie, waarbij beide kanten niet worden ontzien. Het is nog steeds een rijke bron van informatie.
Daarom hebben we een facebookpagina gemaakt waar naast informatie over het conflict ook aandacht is voor (initiatieven tot) co-existentie.
In het komende jaar hopen we ook de website te revitaliseren en updaten, en proberen hem beter te verbinden met de sociale media van tegenwoordig, die zeker nieuwe mogelijkheden biedt voor dialoog en wederzijds begrip. Doe mee!

One of the early internet efforts to advance Middle East peace was MidEast Web for Coexistence.
The website started in 1999 and came from an internet peace discussion forum that started some years earlier. It was largely built by its director and webmaster, the late Ami Isseroff, who filled the site with a ton of background material about the conflict, its history and prospects for resolving it: maps, UN documents, timelines, sharp analyses and critiques by Ami himself on his web log, opinion pieces by many others, initiatives for dialog and peace building (like Peace Child Israel).
After 'Oslo' collapsed and the Second Intifada started, enthusiasm dwindled and many left, but Ami kept MidEastWeb going. It is still a great resource today, but has not been updated since he passed away in June 2011.
Almost four years later, we want to make an effort to revive MidEastWeb. To this purpose we set up a Facebook page to reach out to the old and to a new audience that is looking for ways to coexist in a new Middle East.
In the coming year we also hope to revitalize and update the site itself, and look for ways to connect it better with the social media of today. We also hope to find new writers and editors for MidEastWeb.
